Groundbreaking in Hamburg

Participants at the groundbreaking, (f.l.t.r.): Klaus Spielmann (Vice President & Head of Legal Department, GROUP7 AG) Hubert Borghoff (Vice President & Head of Logistics, GROUP7 AG) Carmen Schmidt (Managing Director, Logistik-Initiative Hamburg) Günther Jocher (Managing Director, GROUP7 AG) Daniel Jocher (Project Manager, GROUP7 AG) Johannes Klebl (Managing Director, KLEBL GmbH) Martin von der Haar (Project Manager, KLEBL GmbH)

On December 9th, 2021 the time had come: the GROUP7 representatives, construction management and the general contractor met for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new logistics center in Hamburg. Together with the GROUP7 logistics centers in Frankfurt, Munich-Parsdorf, at Munich Airport and in Neuss near Düsseldorf, the building represents the fifth logistics center of GROUP7. In the Hamburg’s district of Billbrook, the new building with 26,000 square meters of logistics space and an office area of around 2,000 square meters is being built on a total plot of 40,000 square meters of land. “It is a blessing to be standing here today. The pandemic has dictated new processes and approaches to all of us. All the more, I would like to thank the city of Hamburg for the success of the construction project so far, especially the economic development and the building authorities for the good support during the approval process”, says Günther Jocher, Managing Director of GROUP7. The logistics service provider, headquartered in Munich, plans to commence operations in the new building in autumn 2022.

In the next construction phase, columns and wall elements are set

The way to the groundbreaking was not a short one: due to the nature of the soil, around 5,500 vibrating pillars had to be set up in advance. The pillars were made from recycled concrete from a former motorway and are already strengthening the foundation of the planned property. The groundbreaking will now be followed by the building construction, in which the supports and wall elements will be set. The logistics center is to be certified by the DGNB (German Society for Sustainable Building) and, like all GROUP7 logistics centers it is aimed to receive the gold certificate.

Brilliant energy balance with annual reduction of 850,000 kWh

GROUP7 also focuses on sustainability when it comes to construction: The location is equipped with a photovoltaic system, innovative systems with heat pumps increase the efficiency of the heating and roof greening has ecological advantages in addition to the insulating effect.

Together with many other innovations, this helps the GROUP7 logistics center to save around 850,000 kWh of energy annually compared to a reference building. This roughly corresponds to the consumption of 14,000 refrigerators per year. “At this point, I would like to thank our general contractor, KLEBL GmbH, and all the other parties involved for the excellent cooperation. We see it as our responsibility as GROUP7 to create highquality, modern jobs for our employees and at the same time to promote sustainability. Together with our partners, we will succeed”, Daniel Jocher, Project Manager at GROUP7 concludes
